Goethe’s Quill

Sculpture

Stone, chamois foot, eagle feather, ballpoint pen (Objet Trouve)

GOETHE’S QUILL is a repurposed hunting trophy discovered in the executive office of a decommissioned factory. Thematically, it closely aligns with the work Krippe. The chamois foot, mounted on a stone base, serves as a pen holder, while the quill itself originates from an eagle. This fetishistic object exemplifies the ritualistic transformation of tangible symbols into figurative artifacts intended to convey power and strength.

Both the chamois and the eagle are creatures of the mountains and skies, enveloped in myriad myths due to their elusive nature, agility, and intelligence, which made them formidable to capture or hunt. This original “sculpture” seemingly attempts to distill these untamed animals to their most basic forms, subsequently reimagining them as everyday objects.
